Chapter Twenty Four

“You sure you’ll be alright?”

I turned around and faced Jake. I smiled at him and leaned against the car for support. “Yes, Jake,” I said, “I’ll be fine. Did I not drive myself here?”

He shrugged. “Well, you’re leg is broken, you shouldn’t driving at all.”

I rolled my eyes. “If I can figure out a away to drive my car with a broken leg, I’m going to do it.”

He laughed. “Alright, then.” He walked over to me and hugged me. This was still a shock to me. I had known the unemotional Jake for so long…I wasn’t used to the touchy-feely thing yet. It would probably take me awhile to get used to his openness.

I put my arms around him and hugged back. “I’ll be fine,” I laughed as I let go as did he.

He shrugged. “I can still worry.”

For the second time I rolled my eyes and then opened my door, getting in the front seat. I slid my leg with the cast on in gently and then shut the door. I turned the keys and started the car. I rolled down the window so I could say goodbye to Jake.

“Take care of yourself,” he said.

I smiled again. “Sure,” I said. “I’ll still see you at the end of the summer, right? You won’t disappear on me or anything now that we aren’t together?”

He laughed. “Nah,” he said. “I’ll be waiting.”

“Good.”

He stood up straight and I rolled up my window. I pulled out of the driveway, taking one last look at Jake and then driving down the road, getting on the highway. Towards Camp Talooly.

I pulled into Camp Talooly, shut the car off and got out. I pulled out my crutches and then went towards the main building to see what I was needed for. As soon as I walked in, I immediately bumped into Chris -and of course, Felicity.

“Oh,” Chris said. “You’re back.”

I nodded. “Yeah,” I said, “I’m back.”

He noticed my happy mood, I could see, and he raised his eyebrows. Felicity looked between the two of us, and hugged herself closer to Chris’ side. When she looked away for the briefest second I mouthed I’ll tell you later to Chris. He nodded and him and Felicity walked out.

I sighed and hobbled into the kitchen area to find Tracy. Which I did, and she then told me that I could come back around lunch time for kitchen duty, like I had been before.

I nodded and then hobbled back outside. I would be glad when I got my cast off. It was only one more week. And then I could get my old job back, kayaking…with Chris.

But when I walked outside, something that I saw surprised me. Chris was getting into a kayak…with Felicity. And there were kids! There were kids with them! Which meant…that he had kids to teach….

So why was Felicity with him?

I went over to them and Chris looked up and saw me. He smiled.

“Hey.”

“Hi,” I said politely.

Felicity was still getting in her kayak so she didn’t notice me yet.

I nodded in her direction and Chris followed my gaze. He rolled his eyes and looked back at me. “She insisted that I needed help with my job, since you were out and stuff. So she’s taking over for you until you get your cast off.”

I raised my eyebrows. “Oh?” I felt a little hurt. “So who’s doing her job?”

“Well,” he said, “no one.”

I stared blankly at him.

“I mean, the guys that were already doing it with her are still there. They don’t really need three people, Felicity said.”

I nodded. “Oh, okay.” I still didn’t understand. Teaching the kids to kayak wasn’t that hard. When I was doing it with Chris, I basically did nothing, meaning Chris was basically working on his own. So he didn’t need Felicity around to help.

I looked over at her and she was trying to buckle herself, but failing.

He didn’t need her around to help when she clearly didn’t even know what she was doing.

“Alright, then,” I said happily, although inside -for some reason- I was growing more jealous than I should be.

Chris looked at me, curious, but I just focused my gaze somewhere else. Felicity, finally having buckled herself, sighed and turned around, finally noticing me.

“Oh,” she said, “you’re here.”

I gave her a sarcastic smile.

“Well, as you can see, this is my job now,” she said, smug.

“Temporarily,” Chris added.

She glowered at him. “Temporarily,” she said, giving in.

I stood there as each kid loaded themselves into the kayaks, and Felicity just sat there, making sure she wasn’t getting wet, or her hair wasn’t messed up or anything. It wasn’t fair that this -breaking me leg- happened to me and I was such a good person. And Felicity…

Well, nothing happened to HER.

I took a deep breath, calming myself down. I couldn’t think like that. Felicity wasn’t that bad of a person, really. She just really loved Chris…sort of. I guess. But, if they wanted to be together, who was I to stop them? Even though I don’t even see Chris in that way.

I didn’t.

Not even one bit.

“Well have fun,” I offered weakly and turned around heading back up towards my cabin.

“What do you do for fun?”

I raised my eyebrows at Chris, who was again sitting in his little spot behind the food counter. It was lunch already and I was refilling the food containers. I sat back down once I was finished.

“You want to know everything I do for fun?” I asked.

He nodded. “Everything.”

We were still playing that game where we asked each other questions and we had to answer. We had been ever since the first time we started. It was getting quite fun.

“Well,” I said. Where should I start? “I love to read,” Chris laughed and I glared, making him shut up. “Uh…”

“That’s it?”

I looked again at him. “No,” I replied defensively. “That’s not ‘it’.”

He grinned and I thought.

What did I like to do for fun?

“I know I like to kayak…,” I grinned, “now that I know how.”

Chris laughed. “Sure, sure. Kayaking is fun, I guess.”

“I like to go to movies,” I offered.

He snorted.

I glared once more and he quieted. “I…like to hang out with my friends?”

“Do you do anything for fun?”

“Yes!” I protested. “I just can’t think of things right now.”

He grinned, smug.

“Oh, shut up.”

We were definitely back to our old selves. After the camping trip, it had been a disaster, and with the whole Jake thing. But now…I could say we were back to normal. Back to the first few days that we were getting to know each other.

It was back to having fun.

Fun. I hung out with Chris for fun. Did that count? But I couldn’t very well say that. It could come out sounding as a flirtatious move on him or something. Which, I definitely wouldn’t mean it that way. But it would sound that way.

But, hanging out with Chris was basically the only fun I had these days. And he didn’t even realize it.



I'm sorry if it was too short. But seriously, you people were freaking out. And, so, I needed to update.
But if it helps, I thought it'd be longer when I looked at it on MS Word. It seemed longer there.

I know totally!! LIke if I were writing this it would go like this:




Felicity finally looked over from her defeated attempts to buckle herself, and saw me.

"Oh, you're here," she said unhappily.

I was tired of her. So I hobbled over and pushed the kayak away from the edge of the water. Without her paddles, that were lying on the shore. I smirked.

"You bi-" She was cut off because of the exuberant kayaker that had lost control because his hyper-ness that crashed into her.

Her kayak flipped over. She emerged a few moments later, her 'perfect hair' bedraggled, and her clothes drenched. She spit out some water and yelled,

"I can't believe you did that, you b!itch! I'm going to kill you!!"

"Whatever,"I muttered and limped away to my cabin, passing Chris who had covered his mouth and was shaking. I think he was trying not to laugh.

Behind me I heard Felicity yell at Chris to help her out, and roaring laughter, and Felicity yelling at Chris.



Now that's more satisfying right!!

Oh, thanks Jess. And yeah, it wasn't "amazingly good" but...hopefully it'll get better.
