Kira one day called in to a radio show to request a song. The radio-host agreed to play the song, but asked her to sing a little bit for her. (?) Kira reluctantly agreed. After she was done, the radio host announced that she was the winner of the radio contest for the singing contest to sing live on stage with uprising star Danielle Smith. Wait...what?

Still, I wish that would happen to me.
I'm glad all you guys like it! I think we all wish this could happen to us...or at least a whole lot of us do.
Actually...where I got the idea was about a year ago I called into a radio station and requested a Carrie Underwood song. This is what occurred.
"So, do you like Carrie Underwood?"
"Uh...yeah."
"Can you sing a little bit for us?"
"Umm...no thank you."
And that was the end of it. Except, you know, there was no contest, and my family was mad that I didn't actually sing. I think I recalled my step-mom saying something like, "I've called into the radio station for years and they NEVER asked me to sing."
Oh yeah, the update is coming right away. The one tomorrow should be way longer.

I walked through the door of my room and laid my backpack on my bed, and turned on the radio. This was just great. The song Fireflies was on. Again. If they played it anymore, I’d lose my mind. It’s not a good thing when you know all the lyrics to a song you don’t even like. But that was the radio world for you. I turned it down to a very low volume and called the radio station. I was such a music geek. I knew the station’s number by heart.
I heard someone pick up right away. How rare. Usually I got the busy signal, especially since more than half the time there was a contest going on. “Hello, Q207, alternative rock station.” It was Kat Clayborn, the radio host.
“Umm….yeah. I’d like to request The Only Exception by Paramore please.” I asked politely.
“Well, can you sing some of it for us please?” Kat asked. What? Was she serious? Sing? On the radio? With who knows how many people listening?
“Umm….I—”
“Look, it doesn’t have to be a lot, maybe just the first verse. “She said. Jeez. Well…I guess if I sounded that horrible, no one would notice it was me, considering I didn’t give my name out or anything. I sang the first verse. There was a silence on the other end of the phone. Did I sound that bad?
“Well…I think we have a winner!” she said. Wait. What?
“Winner? For what?” I asked nervously.
“You don’t know? Honey, we’ve been holding a contest for singing for the past week. You called in right before the deadline, and you’re the best of all that’s called in so far. You get to sing on stage with Danielle Smith.”
“Wait. You mean Danielle Smith, the person that both sang and wrote A Dozen Long-Stemmed Roses?” Danielle Smith was quickly climbing the ladder of the music business. She had only popped into the music business a year ago and she already had four number one hits.
“Yep. That’s the one.” She replied in a cheery voice. I felt a little bit light headed. I sat down on my bed quickly.
This couldn’t be actually happening, could it? I mean, sure, maybe to other people, but me? After what happened with Rachel, I never ever even considered the thought that I might sing on a stage without getting mocked.
And that’s when I realized what actually happened between us. And boy was I mad about it.

I shook my head. Rachel. I couldn't believe it. My childhood friend turned out to be a liar and a traitor.
Seven years. That's how long that one little lie effected me. Seven whole years until I figured out the truth.
"Kira, where are you? I can't find you!" Rachel yelled. Oh. It was Rachel. Well, I had to tell her sometime.
"I'm over here!" I called. I was in my closet. It had already been a week since my birthday, but Gran and Gramp's present only reached me yesterday.
"I heard you got another present, and that you were excited about it. What is it? A-"
Rachel walked through the door and stared at the karaoke machine like it was a three-headed cow from a distant planet. "Oh." she said.
I was really nervous about her finding out for some reason, which was crazy. Me and Rachel were best friends. There was nothing to be afraid of.
I guess it was just because Rachel also loved singing, and she was the greatest singer in the whole fifth grade. Her opinion of my singing mattered me a lot, and what she might say made me nervous.
"I didn't know you like to sing, Kira." she said. Her voice sounded a little funny. I wondered why.
"Oh, well I have a bit of stage fright, and the only people I've really sang in front of were Mommy, Daddy, and Gran and Gramps. So I-"
"Sing."
"Uh, what?" I asked. She had a real serious look on her face.
"I want to hear you sing, Kira." Even though I was terrified, I opened my mouth and started to sing Part of Your World.
When I was done, I looked up at her nervously. "So...what do you think."
"Kira, you know I love you...but you don't sound that good. I think it's my job as your best friend to tell you the truth. If I wasn't a true friend, I wouldn't tell you the truth. And if you go out there thinking your good....your only going to embarrass yourself."
Tears stung my eyes. Don't cry, I told myself.
"Okay, thanks." I told her, and faked a smile. What else could I say? Rachel was my only friend. I was terribly shy at school, and insecure. The other girls didn't go anywhere near me.
"Want to go play hide and go seek?" Rachel changed the subject. I nodded.
"I'll be out soon, but I have something to do before I go out. Go wait next to the big oak tree. I'll be out as soon as I'm done." She nodded enthusiastically.
I put the karaoke machine right back in the box I removed it from moments ago. It was a shame, leaving it in the closet to collect dust.
But Rachel was my best friend, and she told me I shouldn't sing. There was no way I could keep a secret from her, we were best friends, and best friends tell each other the truth.

I'm excited and curious as to why Rachel would say that. I mean, hey, she MIGHT'VE sounded bad, so hey. But still, that was just a teensy tiny bitty witty rude to say it that way. *shrugs*
Actually, my brother said something similar to me yesterday because I wanted to play Rockband and I reached for the microphone. =.=
And he's never even heard me sing (and I don't suck. XD) so that was.... disconcerting. XD
But this is not about me. I love it!
Update soon!

What a kind and wonderful brother you have. ;)
And Kira has already figured out the reason that she acted like that...and all will be revealed, in time.

There was total silence as Mom, Dad, and I ate our dinner around the dinning room table. Well, I might as well tell them now.
"Mom, Dad? I kind of accidentally entered a radio contest, and won, so in a week I'm going to be singing onstage with Danielle Smith." I told them.
Mom's eyes widened, while my dad continued to play with his food on the plate and said something like, "Uh-huh. That's nice honey."
Jeez, the night shift was really getting to my dad, wasn't it?
"Ted! Ted! Ted! Ted! Ted!" My mom said repeatedly while tapping my father's shoulder. He looked up in surprise.
"What is it, Angela?" he asked curiously.
"Did you just here what our lovely daughter just said?" she asked. He squinted his eyes, as if trying to remember what I just said.
"She...wants a new radio for Christmas?" he guessed. My mother looked shocked. Who could blame her. My dad was out of it.
"No, honey. She just said that she entered a radio contest for singing, which she won by the way. And now she's going to be singing live on stage with the new uprising singer, Danielle Smith in one week." My Mom nearly shouted with enthusiasm.
Wow. She was taking this extremely good, considering that I hadn't even ask permission to enter the contest in the first place.
"Oh my word." My father said. "I haven't heard you sing since you were like, ten years old!" he exclaimed.
That was true, after Rachel had broken my confidence in music, I pretty much stopped singing altogether. It was pretty rare to hear me sing...no matter how much I loved to.
"Well...it wasn't on purpose. Like I said, it was an accident. Am I aloud to do it? Sing on stage, I mean?"
"Of course!" My mother nearly screamed. "My daughter? My little singer! Ashley Andrews is always bragging about how her daughter is in ballet, and how her daughter has a four-point-oh G.P.A. Well you know what? I bet Ashley Andrew's daughter has never sang on stage with Danielle Smith! This will top her for sure!"
Somehow...I got the since that my mother was more enthusiastic about me singing, than I was myself.
"Umm...okay then. I guess I'm doing it then. The radio people will be visiting our house tomorrow at four. Thanks you guys." I said, and left my mother with a humongous smile on her face, and my father with his jaw practically dropped to the floor.
I didn't quite know how this would end, but the path to it would certainly be a fun one.
But for now, I had some major practice to catch up on.

*feels mysterious aura oozing from her computer*
Er... can you stop that? 8P
...Anyway, about the update- I loved it! I laughed at her parent's reaction, although I though it was slightly disconcerting that her dad said 'like'. XD
Slight CC- I have two kinds, Character and Grammatical:
"Oh my word." My father said. "I haven't heard you sing since you were like, ten years old!" he exclaimed.
Character CC: Er... no one really says 'oh my word', even parents. It makes him sound a little old fashioned- which would be fine is he hadn't said 'like' at the end. Also, 'ten years old' is a bit specific, especially since you establish him as a little cloud minded, so I would suggest:
"Wow, honey." My father said. "I haven't heard you sing for... quite a few years." he exclaimed.
...or something of the like.
Grammar CC- I'm going to use the same sentence:
I should be:
"Oh my word," my father said, "I haven't heard you sing since you were like, ten years old!" he exclaimed.
So please take those into account when you write more. But anyway, I'm excited for the next chapters. 8)
Also, I would like to note that I know someone named 'Danielle Smith' and think this is hilarious. XD

Yeah....I probably should have realized I put the "like" there. Whenever I read it out loud I imagine it in a high pitched preppy voice. XP
I think it's hilarious you know a Danielle Smith. Is she any good at singing? Who knows, maybe I'm somewhat psychic. (Now that would be awesome! Though I highly doubt it.)
Anyways, and update is coming tomorrow.

Mom and Dad sat down in the living room with the radio host and with a couple of guys who I guess were music lawyers or something, since they kind of looked the part and had the contract.
I think my mother freaked them and Kat out, though. Mom seemed a little too enthusiastic about the recent events. And every time Kat told my Mom something, she'd answered with a little too much energy. Like when they told her that they would bring in a voice couch to train me the following week before I performed.
"Yes! A voice couch! Excellent! Awesome! Great!" she said with a smile a bit too big on her face. I could tell that she was thinking about rubbing Ashley Andrews nose in this. I could practically hear her say, "Oh, your daughter performed at the local ballet studio, and is on honor role. Again? Well, I guess that's great. My daughter is doing pretty good for now. I mean, she's performing on stage with Danielle Smith, but it's not like it's a big deal or anything. I mean, she hasn't even been in showbiz that long you know."
But of course, Kat didn't know this. All she probably noticed was that there was a middle-aged mother with a creepy smile on her face starring at her.
And my father...well, I think he was still in shock from when I told him the day before. Either that, or the night shift was still effecting him. He didn't say much except that he nodded along occasionally.
But when everything was done, and they were about to bring out the contract for me and my parents to sign, the doorbell rang. That was Aunt Trudy.
Aunt Trudy was a lawyer. Just a lawyer. Not a music lawyer or anything. She was just there to translate the "big words" for us.
But I still didn't understand why it was necessary to have anyone look it over. I mean, I couldn't get cheated, I was performing for free. I wonthis opportunity to sing a duet with an uprising star. Many people would kill to get this opportunity.
My mother didn't care what I said though, obviously since Aunt Trudy had just walked through the door.
She snatched the contract from the lawyer and read it over.
"It's a okay!" Aunt Trudy told us in a cheerful voice. I could have told her that. But nobody ever listens to me.
Kat and the lawyer shook all of our hands and, then Kat flashed me a smile. "Well, congratulations Kira. And welcome to showbiz." she said.
