Meg Cabot Message Board Writing Club: FanFiction Guidelines

As with every section in the Meg Cabot Message Boards, there are rules. Because in the Writing Forum in general we are dealing with user-generated material we have a couple of special rules.

For the FanFiction Section:
  • Keep criticism constructive. No flames, please. If you have nothing constructive to say then don't say anything. If you are in the receiving end of constructive criticism, don't get offended.
  • Use proper English and punctuation as much as possible - we understand English is not the primary language of many of you, but do check grammar and orthography as much as possible when you're posting a story or commenting, just so it's easier for everyone to understand.
  • Post short stories and Poetry in the thread destined for this purpose.
  • Work on one story at a time (including tag-teams).
  • Suggestion: Please, let everyone know what book is your fan fiction going to be about, and please remember that in this section we are limited to FanFics of Meg's works.

Regarding Content:
We have users of all ages in the boards, and as such we need to have some rules regarding content. So, the following are not allowed:
  • Graphic descriptions of self-mutilation/harm (suicide, cutting, eating disorders) - You can talk about these things in your stories, but nothing too descriptive.
  • Graphic sex scenes - Vague passages are acceptable, but again, nothing too graphic or descriptive.
  • Graphic violence/Rape scenes. Same as above.

About Disclaimers:
In light of copyright issues, we ask that you to please ensure a disclaimer accompanies any material or artwork that does not belong to you. If taken to the extreme, any small or large infringement or violation of copyright can have all type of consequences beyond our control. So,
  • Proper disclaimers must be clear and evident to all to see.
  • With banners, please try to provide the following information:
    Original Image Title and Link:
    Original Artist:
    Banner Adapted by:
  • Always check what kind of license the image you want to use has (it should be Non-Commercial, Share-Alike, so you're in the clear, more info about licenses here).
  • With songs, please include the following information: Song Title; Artist; Album.

Please note that the violation of these rules/guidelines will be addressed by the Moderators and Administrators.

Thank you for your attention!
