Planner: person who plans their stories using outlines, brain maps, whatever
Plungers: just start writing without any planning
So we are the plungers and let's unite! Any other plungers out there besides Dork!

I have no idea what's going to happen in my story till I write it! Till the end, I am still in the dark about most things! I thought I was the only one, lol. I'm so glad there are other 'plungers' haha

My friend thinks I'm crazy. She's a planner and cannot write a story without making an outline first...

Yeah, I usually do, like, zero planning. Usually it's a character that gets me started – or a general picture in my head that I can create something around. That happened recently with something I started and destroyed with romance. Let me tell you, be sparse with romance unless your work demands it. Because if you write a novel with romance when there's none needed - especially a dystopian novel - it will kill e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.
And you will hate yourself forever.
Anyway, I usually do very little or no planning because it's never been my style. I (with Alyce in Dystopia, which is on the boards) wrote a few pages of just flat-out backstory on the MGMT Corporation and what they're planning to do. I learned that planning a few things before writing, or at least having some sort of idea that you can work around and further strengthen as time wears on, is almost essential. I used to just write some random prologue and "just go with it."
That's how I wrote my first novel. It was fun.
