I know a lot of you are really interested in getting your novels published or in entering writing contests for scholarships and stuff. So this thread is for people who would like to post contests from publishers, scholarships they find out about, and other such things. Please DO NOT chat in this thread or have the "thanks!" or anything. People posting in this thread should only post contests or scholarships they would like to share.

But just so we're clear, thanks to everyone who posts in the future!

:D

Here's a good place to look for agents that represent the type of manuscript your writing.

Agent Query

They tell you the status of certain agents so you don't waste time sending anything to them if they aren't accepting at the moment.

Meg's agent is there, but she's currently not accepting manuscripts.

PUSH is dedicated to new authors and new voices. These writers tell it like it really is. No preaching. No false endings. No stereotypes or contrivance. Just an honest dose of reality. These books are funny, observant, heartbreaking, and heartstopping.
Just like life.

www.outercast.com

This a small swedish mahazine publishing short stories from all over the world. The readership is mainly adults. The current topic in "school". The last one was "Insanity", and I got a short story published. You get paid around 10$, or whatever the equivalent in your currency might be, and get a free issue. They don't pay you more, since they're just starting and trying to get people to read them.
Good luck!

Another really good writing contest is called Letters about Literature. In it you write to an author, living or dead, about how their book has changed you or affected you. It is a national contest sponsored by the Library of Congress and Target. Grades 6-12 can enter and there are great awards!
