I read the story again!
This part made me laugh:
Dante had gone up the stairs with the young lady acting limp by his side. He had seen many a woman try these exaggerated performances in front of him, and this was by far the worst he had ever seen.
and this. This part REALLY captured what women nowaday think!
“My lady!” the baroness was running towards her, lifting her skirts to reveal her white ankles. “Why are you leaving so suddenly?” Her face was troubled. “Did we do something to change your mind?” She tilted her head at an angle which she thought would best accentuate her cheekbones.
AND I NOTICED something!
“Dante, what is it that you hold most dear?” Malena asked, wanting to forget the trepidation with a question.
“What I hold dear?” Dante was amused by his mistress’ query. He did not think she was so interested in his life. “Why do you think a demon like me has that?”
“Everyone does.” Malena turned to look at her butler’s face that was half shadowed by the candlelight. “Even I have that. Maybe not what you hold ‘dear’, but important. What is the most important thing to you?”
Dante looked thoughtful for a few seconds, then his lips arched into a hollow smile. “My memories. The memories that I have cultivated over time.”
“I have to atone for my offense to the contract.” Dante’s lowered his eyes in a sad manner.
“What do you think will happen?” Malena suddenly found herself to be nervous.
“My Revered Master, the highest Devil Himself, will make it so that both of us will suffer.” He turned his eyes away from Malena’s. “He has always known what is the best punishment. He will take what is important from both of us.”
SEE??? the devil took away what was important for both of them, tearing them apart forever! he took away dante's precious memories, and for malena, the devil took what was important to her too! The precious memories she also shared with dante...memories that would never be duplicated again! especially the memories of him falling in love with her...
oh no im going to cry again...
